5) NAPALC Calls for Passage of the Filipino Veterans Equity Act
The National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium and its affiliates the Asian Law Caucus and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center call on members of Congress to pass the Filipino Veterans Equity Act, HR 302 and S 146.

The proposed legislation will amend the 1946 Rescission Act, restoring benefits for Filipino veterans who fought in World War II. Unlike foreign nationals from more than 60 other countries who also fought under the U.S. flag, Filipino veterans were singled out and denied eligibility for benefits as U.S. veterans.

6) Attention College Students--UIC Researchers conducting survey on involvement in civic affairs.
This is a Chicago metropolitan area study. Students can participate if they either permanently reside in Cook County and the surrounding collar counties, or they are attending a school located in those counties. Graduate/professional students and undergraduates are eligible to participate.

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago are conducting a survey on college students of Asian descent and their involvement in civic affairs. You can participate in the survey if you are a US citizen, 18 years or older, and identify as being Asian, Asian American, or of Asian descent.

The survey will provide information about how the experiences of Asian American students are related to their involvement in their communities and attitudes toward public policies.

Few surveys of this kind have been conducted, and we need your help in gathering information about these issues. In order to gather the best results, YOUR participation is important. Please help spread the word to other Asian American students.

To participate in the survey, please send an email referring to the survey to aebreo@uic.edu and information will be emailed to you.

The survey will remain open to participants until August 1, 2005 or until the maximum number of participants is reached, whichever comes first.

For questions regarding the survey, please contact:
Angela Ebreo 312-996-5294 aebreo@uic.edu.
